Box Score LA GRANDE, Ore. – In the last home game of the 2013 season for Eastern Oregon University, the Mountaineers put on a show for its fans. EOU defeated Dickinson State, 57-3, Saturday afternoon. EOU dominated the game as they complied 616 yards of total offense with 445 yards coming on the ground.
Chris McGinnis-Parker led the way for Eastern Oregon as he compiled 259 all-purpose yards (219 rushing; 40 receiving) and scored four touchdowns on the afternoon.
Mahonri Bostrom rushed for 105 yards giving EOU two, 100 plus yard rushers in the same game for the first time since Oct. 13, 2007, when Brad Padayao and Travis Morscheek accomplished the feat.
As impressive as the Mountaineers offense was, the EOU defense was just as impressive. Eastern Oregon's defense only allowed Dickinson State to 142 yards of total offense and held the Blue Hawks to 23 passing yards and forcing Dickinson State to commit four turnovers on the afternoon.
EOU started the game off with a bang as
Jace Billingsley took the opening kick-off 92 yards for a touchdown to put EOU on top, 7-0. The first defensive play for the Mountaineers, EOU forced Jesse Carney to fumble and EOU recovered it. The offense came on the field and went 39 yards on seven plays, which was capped off by McGinnis-Parker's first touchdown of the afternoon, giving EOU a 13-0, lead.
EOU added a 22 yard field goal to take a 16-0, lead after the first quarter of action was complete.
The offense continued to click in the second quarter, as on the first play of the quarter,
Dominique Blackman found McGinnis-Parker for a 21 yard touchdown pass giving EOU a 23-0 lead. On EOU's next position
TJ Esekielu rushed for a six yard touchdown extending the lead to 30-0.
After a Dickinson State, three and out, the Mountaineers went 72 yards on seven plays in three minutes and 20 seconds for its sixth score of the afternoon. McGinnis-Parker finished the drive with a 24 yard touchdown run, extending the EOU lead to 37-0.
Dickinson State broke onto the scoreboard on its next drive as they went 60 yards on 11 plays. Josh Borm drilled a 26 yard field goal to put the Blue Hawks down 37-3.
Marc David added his second field goal of the game, a 39 yard kick, to put the Mountaineers on top, 40-3, at halftime. EOU scored on every position they were on offense in the first half.
To start the third quarter, the Blue Hawks collected one first down and had to punt. The punt pinned the Mountaineers back on the eight yard line. That did not stop EOU from scoring quickly, as it took only two plays. McGinnis-Parker went 87 yards on the second play of the drive for his third rushing touchdown of the game. This was the second-consecutive week that McGinnis-Parker has gone 80 plus yards for a touchdown.
The offense continued to move the ball in the third quarter. With senior quarterback,
Ray Walser, leading the offense, EOU went 82 yards on eight plays. On Walser's only pass of the drive, he found AJ Prom for a seven yard touchdown putting EOU on Top 54-3.
EOU's offense was in good position to add another score after
Matt Gayman interception of Thad Lane. However, EOU could not punch it in and David made his third field goal of the game, this time for 28 yards out putting EOU on top 57-3.
EOU claimed the victory by a score of, 57-3.
Eastern Oregon returns to the field next Saturday, Nov. 9 when they travel to Ashland, Ore. to face the Raiders of Southern Oregon. Kick-off is set for 12 p.m. PT.
