Box Score BILLINGS, Mont. – Eastern Oregon University football had its run of beating ranked teams come to an end on Saturday afternoon when the No. 12 Rocky Mountain College Battlin' Bears defeated EOU, 45-13.
Zach Bartlow and
Dominique Blackman both threw for 110 passing yards and a touchdown and Louis Ortiz led the receiving core with 72 yards and a touchdown against the Battlin' Bears.
After an eight play EOU drive stalled and Rocky Mountain took over on offense. On its opening position, the Battlin' Bears went 87 yards on six plays to score the first touchdown of the game. Bryce Baker led the way on the drive as he completed three of four passes. Baker capped the drive off with a 48 yard touchdown pass to Andrew McCullouch to put Rocky Mountain ahead, 7-0.
On the next drive Eastern Oregon converted one first down before the drive stalled and Rocky Mountain took position. Rocky Mountain extended its lead to, 14-0, after a 16 yard touchdown run by Pete Anderson.
EOU's offense started to click at the end of the first quarter. With a drive that started on Mountaineers 24 yard line, EOU went 76 yards on 10 plays for its first touchdown of the game. Eastern Oregon converted a fourth and 12 to keep the drive alive. Bartlow found
Luis Ortiz in the back of the end zone for a 42 yard touchdown to put EOU on the board. However the extra point was missed and the Mountaineers trailed, 14-6.
After the Mountaineers touchdown, Rocky Mountain picked up the defense and the offense continued to click as they scored the next five touchdowns of the game to take a, 45-6, lead over EOU. Bryce Baker recorded two rushing touchdowns and three for his second touchdown of the game during this stretch.
EOU scored its second touchdown of the game late in the fourth quarter.
Dominique Blackman led the Mountaineers 77 yards on 10 plays. Blackman capped off the drive by finding
Alexander Miles for a 30 yard touchdown pass. This put EOU down 45-13. EOU could not get anything else going and fell to Rocky Mountain, 45-13.
With the loss the Mountaineers fall to 2-5 on the season and 2-4 in Frontier Conference action. EOU returns to action next Saturday, Oct. 26 when they travel to Montana Tech. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. MT.
