Box Score La Grande, Ore. – The Eastern Oregon Football team won their homecoming game against Rocky Mountain Saturday afternoon, 28-24.
Jason Simonis completed 24 of 35 passes for 349 total yards. Simonis threw three touchdowns and two interceptions.
Kedrick Starr and
Jace Billingsley had 140 and 86 receiving yards respectively.
In the first half Rocky Mountain (2-4) would shut out the Mountaineers (3-3) and take a 10-0 into halftime.
The Mountaineers came out at half with their offense rolling, as
Jason Simonis would throw two touchdowns in the third. The first, coming with 10:52 to play. Simonis connected with
Andrew Woody for a 3-yard touchdown.
Four possessions later EOU would score again. The Mountaineers put a series of completions together and ended up on the EOU 8 yard line. This time, Billinsgley caught the touchdown pass from Simonis.
The Mountaineers would head into the fourth quarter trailing 13-24.
In the first possession of the fourth
Kedrick Starr returned a punt 83 yards to the house, to close the gap; 20-24.
Another four possessions later, 13 plays, and 95 yards later Simonis would throw his third and final touchdown pass of the game with 3:30 left to take a 26-24 lead.
On the ensuing possession the Mountaineers would sack Rocky Mountain's quarter back, Bryce Baker, in the end zone for a safety which put them up 28-24
Baker completed 18 of 25 passes for 225 yards and threw one touchdown and two interceptions. Eastern had a total of 509 yards of offense on the day and almost doubled Rocky Mountains time of possession; 36:38 to 20:17.
The Mountaineers will host Montana Tech next Saturday October 20
