LA GRANDE, Ore. -- The No. 18 Eastern Oregon University football team was upset at home Saturday, 28-24.

The Mountaineers watched a 24-14 lead slip away in the second half, and were unable to punch in a final score in the two minutes in the game. EOU ended the game six yards short of the endzone after a final effort on the final play of the game.

With no time left on the clock, Eastern's Chris Ware threw a 12-yard pass to Kevin Sampson that got Eastern to the 20-yard yard line, when Sampson then pitched the ball to Rick Copsey. Before being brought down Copsey pitched the ball to Jordan Smith that got EOU to the Tech 10-yard line. Smith pitched the ball to Kirk Miller as he was being pulled down, and Miller got to the six-yard line before being stopped.

After breaking four school record last week, Ware broke another record Saturday throwing 25 completions. He bypassed Greg Stevens completions in a season record set in 1990. Stevens had 200 completions that season and Ware has thrown 215 completions in 2009. The sophomore attempted 42 throws, two short of his own record he set last year for pass attempts in a season with 344. Ware threw for 297 yards with three touchdowns and an interception.

The Mountaineers' Thomas Akers also set a record for point after attempts in a season set by Chris Setser in 1999. Akers now has 42 PAT attempts in 2009. Rodell Razor was the third Mountaineer player to set a new school record Saturday. The senior now has 160 interception return yards in his career.

Jordyn Jackson led EOU receiving with 76 yards on six catches. Miller had five catches for 62 yards. Tech was led by Matt Komac's 208 yards on 15 of 21 passing. He had two touchdowns and an interception for 208 yards through the air. Skyler Knuchel carried for 108 yards on 25 carries with two touchdowns.

The Mountaineers will travel to Havre, Mont., next Saturday, Oct. 31, to play Montana State-Northern. The game kicks off at noon MT, with pregame beginning at 10:40 a.m. Saturday on KCMB 104.7 FM.
