Box Score SPRINGFIELD, Ore. – The EOU men's soccer team rebounded after a loss Friday night defeating Northwest Christian in a nail-biting 1-0 victory, Saturday evening.
Sophomore forward
Elvis Pavon wasted little time getting the Mountaineers (10-6-1, 5-6-1 CCC) on the board first. Just 10 minutes in, Pavon took a well-weighted pass from freshman midfielder
Jorge Chavez, and produced a shot from 20-yards out finding the right side of the net.
Looking for the equalizer in the 24th tick, Sanad Elghanai of NCU (8-6-2, 4-5-2 CCC) fired a shot right into the hands of sophomore keeper
Aidan Wright, who got the starting nod in goal tonight. Despite being outshot 4-3 by the Beacons, the Blue and Gold took a 1-0 lead into halftime.
Heading into the second stanza, the Mountaineer defense took the tall order of keeping the Beacons off the board and held their ground. Three minutes in, a header shot in the box from NCU was deflected and EOU was credited with a team save. In the 59th minute, Wright was tested once again by Elghanai but was in the right position for the denial.
EOU finished the game with six total shots, and the only one coming on target was the Pavon goal, proving to be the game-winner.
Wright finished the match with two saves, while registering his first start of the season.
