KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – Oregon Tech scored twice in the second stanza, and the Eastern Oregon University men's soccer team couldn't recover, dropping a 2-1 decision to the Owls on the road.
"This season is about growth, and tonight was an example of needing more and unfortunately we fell flat," said head men's soccer coach Stan Rodrigues. "We need to rebound and focus a lot more to get a positive result. OIT is a solid team. I give them credit for playing well."
Key Performances
Junior forward Fredy Rodriguez led the Navy and Gold with one goal and three shots on the night, while junior midfielder Cristian Anguiano fired four shots on frame.
In the box, junior goalkeeper Alfredo Lara logged two saves in the losing effort.
The Storyline
EOU drew a scoreless tie against OIT for over 56 minutes of the match, outshooting the Owls 10-6 during that time frame.
However, in the 57th minute, Casey Oltman broke the drought and scored from 15 yards out to put OIT on the board, 1-0.
The Mountaineers had a chance for the equalizer in the 70th and 71st minutes but came up empty. After junior midfielder Jovan Rojas sailed in a corner kick, Rodriguez missed from close range, and then a shot by freshman midfielder Jesus Trejo was saved by Owl keeper Gerardo Skewes.
OIT (6-5, 4-3 CCC) claimed a 2-0 lead after scoring in the 87th minute, but EOU countered with a goal of its own, as Rodriguez took a cross from freshman midfielder Christopher Gianandrea and scored to put the Mountaineers on the board.
But time simply ran out for the Navy and Gold, and the Owls held on for the victory.
