CALDWELL, Idaho – Despite outshooting College of Idaho, 13-9, the Eastern Oregon University men's soccer team was held scoreless for the second game in a row en route to a 2-0 defeat to the Yotes on Sunday afternoon.
"This was another example of youth and lacking patience," said head men's soccer coach Stan Rodrigues. "We gave up two very similar goals, and not learning from our previous mistakes will not take us to where we need to be. As our season comes to a conclusion, we as a staff will review the highs and lows and make the changes that are needed to build on what we have begun."
Key Performances
Freshman forward Jesus Trejo took three shots for the Navy and Gold, including two on goal, while junior midfielder Jovan Rojas launched a trio of shots as well.
In goal, junior keeper Alfredo Lara collected two saves for EOU.
The Storyline
The Yotes (7-4, 6-4 CCC) netted goals in both halves and used their stingy defense to put the Mountaineers to rest.
College of Idaho fired three shots in the opening 15 minutes before finally connecting in the 17th minute, as Tyrell Johnson's header found the back of the net.
EOU nearly notched the equalizer in the closing minutes of the period, but College of Idaho keeper Grant Billings made a diving save on Trejo's shot attempt.
In the 53rd minute, Andres Idoeta scored College of Idaho's second header of the day to give the Yotes a 2-0 advantage.
The Mountaineers almost struck in the 63rd minute on a throw-in opportunity, but Billings again made a critical save on a header attempt by junior forward Fredy Rodriguez.
