DECATHLON FULL RESULTS
OREGON CITY, Ore. – Eastern Oregon University track and field student-athlete,
Robbie Haynie, won the Cascade Collegiate Conference decathlon title Friday.
Haynie finished with 7,112 points, a new EOU school record. He became the first Eastern athlete to total 7,000 points in the decathlon, and only the second at the conference championships. The meet record is held by Southern Oregon's Ross Kennedy who totaled 7,355 points in 1997. He won the 1995, 1996, and 1997 conference titles.
Haynie now has the top mark in the NAIA, passing the current high of 6,715 held by Westmont's Andy Thompkins. College of Idaho's Austin Basterrechea finished second Friday. The sophomore had 6,567 points. Eastern's
Asa Miller came in eighth place, gaining one team point for the Mountaineers, with 5,373 points.
Haynie entered the second day as the leader with a first day total of 3,660 points. College of Idaho's Michael Hurd opened the second day with a victory in the 110-meter hurdles. He finished first with a time of 15.50. Haynie came in second at 16.17. Miller had a time of 17.02.
Haynie won the seventh event, the discus with a top mark of 115 feet, 2 inches, beating out Corban's Taylor Wilkins' mark of 111 feet, 8 inches. Miller came in eighth with a mark of 89 feet. Haynie then won the pole vault. The Nampa, Idaho, native had the top mark of 16 feet, 8.75 inches. He picked up 941 points with the event win. Miller came in sixth at 11 feet, 1.75 inches.
Northwest's Jason Waltman won the ninth event, the javelin, with a top mark of 172 feet, 8 inches. Haynie came in second at 171 feet, 2 inches. Miller had a top toss of 108 feet, 4 inches. In the final event, the 1,500 meters, Basterrechea won with a top of 4:26.17. Miller came in sixth at 4:41.78, and Haynie was eighth crossing the line at 4:51.51.
Eastern will have 11 team points from Haynie and Miller at the Cascade Conference track and field Championship meet in Klamath Falls from May 10-12.
