Coffey and Flores Claim Conference Crowns

KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – Eastern Oregon University Cross Country runners, Karlee Coffey and DJ Flores, each won individual titles at the Cascade Collegiate Conference Championships Saturday at Oregon Tech.

The EOU men edged The College of Idaho by one point to claim second place in the meet, No. 1 Southern Oregon won the team title. The Mountaineer women finished fourth.

Coffey continues her phenomenal season. The sophomore scorched the field with a finishing time of 18:34. Concordia's Alice Taylor finished second with a time of 19:10. Coffey has been named the conference runner of the week four times this season. The La Grande native has the second fastest time in the CCC in 2010. Her time of 17:37 is four seconds shy of Taylor's top time in the conference this season.

The Concordia women won the team title with five runners finishing in the top 18. The Cavaliers finished with 44 points, while Southern Oregon had 52 points in second place. College of Idaho was in third with 69 points and EOU finished with 95 points.

The Mountaineers' Sarah Hanchett crossed the line in 17th with a time of 20:07. Talissa Baldovino and Laura Hansen were 22nd and 25th with times of 20:13 and 20:24. Cristal Delgado and Kimmy Moore were the next Eastern Oregon runners across the finish line in 31st and 32nd (20:51 and 20:54).

On the men's side, Eastern had five finishers in the top 18, led by Flores. The sophomore raced to a first place finish, 25:27. Flores beat out Southern Oregon's Zach Elliott's second place time of 25:33. The Raiders finished with five runners in the top nine, and their sixth runner was in 11th place.

Eastern's Terry Johnsen came in seventh place (26:18). Forrest Lumpry crossed the line in 14th place with a time of 26:27. Justin Dean and Isaac Updike followed in 17th and 18th place with times of 27:00 and 27:07. Ryan Booth crossed the line in 20th (27:14).

The Mountaineers will await the results of the NAIA National Championship field announcement to see who will be racing in the Nov. 20 meet in Vancouver, Wash.
