Wayne participated at Eastern Between 1979-1982 as a linebacker. During that time he was recognized for his outstanding athletic achievements including:

-          Member of the 1980 Evergreen Conference Championship team

-          First team All Northwest

-          First team all district

-          First team all Evergreen Conference

-          Team captain

-          Most valuable player

-          NAIA Honorable Mention All- American
