During his time at Eastern Oregon, John Bilyeu Jr. participated in football and wrestling. As a football athlete, Bilyeu Jr. was a three time All-Conference selection, two time All-District, All Northwest and in 1968 Second Team All-American. He was also named outstanding lineman for two years.
On the mat, Bilyeu was a four time Heavyweight conference champion and a three time district champion. During the 1968 season, he was named AAU Heavyweight champion in the Greco and freestyle. He also attended three national championships.
Bilyeu Jr.'s most memorable moment at EOU was during their homecoming game in 1967 against the Oregon College of Education, where he blocked the extra point to claim Eastern Oregon the 7-6 victory.
