Dirk’s two-time NAIA All-American status, with third place in the weight throw and second place in the hammer throw in 2005, was a testament to his excellence. Dirk was a six-time NAIA National Championship Qualifier and a 2003 NCAA Division III National Qualifier in the Discus. His career also included three Cascade Collegiate Conference Championships (discus in 2003 and 2005, hammer in 2005) and a CCC Championship record in the discus in 2005. By the end of his athletic career at EOU, Dirk had accumulated 11 school records across three different events. Today, he resides in Imbler, Oregon, with his spouse Sara Bortz and teaches advanced Mathematics at Elgin High School. He is also a member of the EOU Track and Field coaching staff.
