In 1974 many Universities offered few opportunities for female participation in intercollegiate athletics. Eastern however not only offered these opportunities but were leaders in the era of Title IX and Gender Equity.
Head Coach Jean Neely (Hall of Fame Member) team included; La Velle Boyer Cornwell, Peggy Halloran- Weishar, Nola Asher, Jo Dale, Lori Guarricagartia, Karen Wetherall, Arlene Gentle-Pene, Kay Critchlaw-Kludt, Sherry Porter and Kenna Jo Smith- Punches represented one of the best programs in the Pacific Northwest at the time.

NCWSA Champions
Pacific Northwest Region 3rd Place
First Women’s Athletic Team to advance to National Play
At the time the competition included the likes of Portland State University and the University of Oregon, which this team beat 15-12 and 15-11 in the NCWSA tournament Final.
